3D 4K 120 FPS “Billy Lynn” available on 2D 4K 60fps UHD Blu-Ray + 3D 24fps Blu-Ray

Ang Lee is a true 3D hero daring to push the HFR envelope one step further: His “Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk” is the first movie ever shot in 120 frames per second (and 4K stereoscopic 3D).

In its world première, Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk was shown exactly as intended at the AMC Lincoln Square (New York City, USA). It was the only theater in the U.S. that can handle 3D 4K 120 FPS.

Now you can buy a UHD-Blu-ray + 3D Blu-Ray combo. So you can not enjoy all technologies at once, but still see how every technology affects the movie. This is, as we know, the first 60fps disc of the world, something more important on 4K pictures as movement at only 30fps on that resolution look’s more noticeable.

We think actual tech allow UHD Blu-Rays could use 2K resolution for 3D movies, and there’s no need to change existing equipment, only a firmware update. Quality increase from 1080P to 1440P (2K) in 3D it’s much more noticeable than 2d going from 1080P to 2160P (4K), it’s like a new generation of 3D. We can witness that.
You can see an excellent comparison of two discs on blu-ray.com.

We hope than the new HDMI 2.1 will allow 4K 3D 60fps. Or at least we want UHD Blu-Ray with 2K 3D 30fps. Actual tech allow that, and 2K 3D it’s a whole new generation of 3D.

Ooh!
