Movie lovers, rejoice! Dolby and Christie have once again joined forces to take the cinematic experience to a whole new level.
Starting in May, theaters will begin implementing the next-generation Dolby Vision laser projection system, revolutionizing how we experience films on the big screen. Improving the already-impressive previous Dolby laser system (article in spanish).
What makes this new system so special? Imagine an image with more than twice the brightness of conventional projections, a contrast ratio so high that the difference between light and dark exceeds a million to one, and colors so vibrant they seem to leap off the screen. That’s how Dolby Vision promises to transform cinema.

This innovative system is based on pure RGB laser illumination, enabling the Dolby Wide Color Gamut 1.0, which covers an impressive 122% of the DCI-P3 color space. In simple terms, this means we will see more saturated, lifelike colors with an unprecedented depth in cinema.
But it’s not just moviegoers who benefit. Exhibitors also have reasons to celebrate. With a more compact and lightweight design, the new projection system is easier to integrate into various types of premium theaters. Additionally, it ensures superior efficiency and reliability, guaranteeing that the high-quality experience remains intact over time.
The collaboration between Christie and Dolby is not new and has already produced impressive results, such as the Christie E3LH Dolby Vision Cinema projection system, which was even recognized with a Scientific and Engineering Award by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Now, this partnership is stronger than ever, promising that more and more theaters will be able to adopt Dolby Vision technology and make cinema more immersive than ever.

What is known is that this rollout will initially focus on premium theaters, including those under the Dolby Cinema format (which already number around 300 globally) and other theaters from exhibitors adopting the combined Dolby Vision + Dolby Atmos solution. Since the process will be phased, the first theaters to adopt it are likely to be those associated with major chains that already collaborate with Dolby and Christie, such as Cinemex in Mexico, Cineplex in Germany, or complexes in key markets like the United States, China, and Western Europe. In Spain, for example, the only known Dolby Cinema theater until recently, located at La Maquinista (Barcelona) and now operated by Cine Yelmo after being managed by Cinesa, could be a candidate if it decides to upgrade its technology, though there’s no official confirmation yet.
For those who love the thrill of cinema at its best, this is fantastic news. Starting in May, the magic of cinema will shine brighter than ever. Are you ready to see the future on the big screen?
